Welcome to the Amy Cortell Interiors inaugural blog post, I am so happy you are here! I thought this would be a great time to do a little “about me” and share how I found my way to my passion as an interior designer, and how I hope to share that with you!
I think if you are creative, you always have that in you from the get go! I always wanted to “play house” as a young girl, and used old project boards to create a fun floor plan of rooms and living spaces in my parents basement. I loved feeling like I created something unique and fun for my little fake family to live in, and while I thought I was playing pretend, I was really uncovering a major passion of mine!
Going into college I was thrilled to be able to decorate a dorm at Kent State University with my high school friend! We coordinated bedding, and purchased everything to match our dorm theme, all the way down to a new flat iron! I studied fashion and had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Florence, Italy during my junior year of college. I observed architecture and many aspects of design from various countries while traveling that really had me thinking about what my true passion was. I always loved fashion, but found that my thoughts were drifting more towards interior design.
When the end of senior year was in sight, and the reality of actually working in my field of study set in, I realized I did not want to be a part of the cut throat fashion industry . Fashion still holds a very special place in my heart, but I wanted to share my work on a smaller scale, and have one on one interaction with the people who would be using my designs. I specialize in e-design which is a virtual collaborative design process between designer and client.
E-design is so fun because it allows you to work with the designer of your choice regardless of location
and social distancing. E-design is also very budget friendly, and you can really tailor services to match your budget and project needs.
Interior design is so personal to me. What is more important than your home? You raise a family in your home, you host friends to your home, you find shelter in your home during hard times, and create traditions and memories in your home; it needs to be a safe place you feel comfortable in and proud of!
Thank you for reading along today! I hope you enjoyed hearing a bit about how I got my start in
interior design, and why I am so passionate about helping you love your home!
